Title:Acorn Dance Song
Contributor (consultant):Leemee, Chief
Contributor (researcher):Anonymous
Date:[1948 August]
Description:An Acorn Dance is described in Powers (2877:354-55), but the ceremony is not mentioned by this name in other sources on the Sierra Miwok. A Maiduan Acorn Dance is discussed in Powers (1877:285-86) and Powers also describes a dance of the same name among the Pomo (ibid. 155). Evidently the Acorn Dance was one of the so-called "first fruit" ceremonies as described in Bean and Theodoratus (1978:297) or in Gifford and Kroeber (1939:163, 212). Distributed on California Indian Music Project, Sierra region, tape 16, side A and Valley region, tape 4, side B.
