Bibliographic Citation: | Wera, Wilhelmus (Wera Ngangene), Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Ratu, Hilarius; 2014-12-02; Genre: Fairy tale. Title: Sinyo Welen (Raja no'o Putri, King and Princess). Wera Ngangene (b. c. 1943), senior adat singer and son of a great adat singer, is also known as a skilled story teller. In the past, when Ratu (HR) was still a child he remembered how Wera used to tell the kids fantastic and funny tales in evenings when the moon was big and shining brightly. Indeed, Wera is an enthusiastic story teller; his stories are good fun and fantastic, lots of events and unexpected turns. Not least in Sinyo Welen. This tale is told from beginning until end in this file, but something was forgotten so we recorded again (Sinyo Welen 2), from just before the part where Wera forgot something. Sinyo Welen is a lizard, but lives among men. The King is going on a trip and tells his pregnant wife that if the child is a boy, keep it, if it is a girl, just give me its liver, grilled. The queen/wife does not obey and gives her daughter to the tiger, who takes her away. One day the king offers a reward, his kingdom, to the one who can find the princess. Sinyo Welen takes on the challenge. It is also a strange, and long, love tale with Sinyo Welen, a man lizard as hero. We recorded two tales this day, the other is titled "Shark and Monkey". Recorded with the AT2020 mic 2 Dec -14 by SD and HR before noon in Wilhelmus Wera's house sitting on the balai-balai ('woga'), the three of us, and with Ware and two neighbours. It was a relaxed session. We also had lunch there, prepared by Wera's wife (Ngole?), and a shot of arak.
