This ideology has not only weakened the vitality of these languages, but also a affected speakers’ mental well-being. After we provide both historical and personal perspectives along with the native speakers at the workshop, we will introduce an objective method to measure the degree of mutual intelligibility to counter the ‘mere dialect’ rhetoric. The method can be also used to measure the degree of intergenerational transmission of languages to assess the current state of endangerment.; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/41989.
