Title: | SD1-121 | |
Bibliographic Citation: | "Pasa", Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan; 2015-06-28; Genre: Oral history. Theme :Kidnapping-headhunting and construction sacrifice. This item is also appendix to the article 'Construction sacrifice in eastern Indonesia', Indonesia and the Malay world (45) 131:1-120 (online approx. 14 Nov -16, print 24 Nov -16). "Pasa", recorded by SD Sunday morning 28 June 2015 in kampong Ndeo. I had invited Pasa to eat traditional porridge with ubi and pepaya leaves, which my hosts had offered me for breakfast. We also had some dried fish and a few shots of arak mixed with delicious honey. I had not planned to record but was reasonably prepared for it, except that I handheld the mic (for over 30 minutes.. longer than expected, but the result was good. This file is exported from the original recording, cut where the subject changes). In this interview Pasa tells about the time when he was working in Lio and Sikka, when he was into martial arts, in a time when 'cago' (jago) men swayed influence. Pasa tells about 'ata nggemi', 'headhunter kidnappers' (named as in article, although their names are uttered), European priests (named as they are in the article, with one initial, in annotations) who were, allegedly, involved in black magic and construction sacrifice. Pasa tells that he was once tempted to try kidnapping himself, together with "Ngange's" brother "Mboi". The interview includes some notes on "Ngange", whom Pasa knew. In this recording, done straight with the H4N recorder, the subject mixes freely between Sara Lu'a and Indonesian. All is not transcribed and translated. Scroll to the right or play. If the Palu'e tier is not on top, drag it there. The English translations are more free than the Indonesian that mostly are word by word.; digital wav file recorded at 48 khz/24 bit, eaf file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/42715. | |
