Title:SD1-256
Bibliographic Citation:Tanga Wera, Sophune, Pidhu (Ebbe), Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Ratu, Hilarius; 2015-11-10; Genre: Medicine/huru: Tanga Wera, kampong Pasir putih, Ropa, Lio (Ende, Flores), tells her 'huru dobho' (huru 'machete'). She explains how she "huru" (protects with a sign and curse that causes disease in the transgressor) her banana trees with a machete. If a transgressor is afflicted, with stomach aches, the person will call Tanga to ask her to cure him/her. Tanga 'ngiru' (applies a chewed mixture) consisting of seku (BI. kencur) root, 'kaliraga' root, garlic and bambu charcoa. and 'hoka du'a', old lime. She chews the plants with areca and betel (BI. sirih pinang) and lime powder. The mixture is applied primarily on the skin of the belly (she does not say, but we know that from the other practitioners), and then they will be fine, if she does not 'ngiru' they will continue to be ill. Lime powder is always used when chewing areca and betel, a constant, and that is why the Editor has not always mentioned it in the descriptions. In a separate recording Ebbe asks if others may listen to hear her voice ('Ngala' – Yes [Can]), and the names of the people present: (also) Pali (young woman), "Najis" (friend), Uffie (child), Patris (older man, uncle), Dhali (woman). Recorded by Ebbe (Pidhu Sophune) 10 Nov -15 bu Tanga's refugee house at Pasir putih, Ropa, in the early afternoon, with the AT Lavelier mic, which resulted in loud recordings, some decent, some worse. This one is alright.; digital wav file recorded at 44,1 khz/16 bit, eaf file, photo jpeg file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/47830.
