Title:SD1-288
Bibliographic Citation:Joseph Cawa, Danerek, H. Stefan II Sophune, Pidhu (Ebbe), Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Ratu, Hilarius; 2015-09-22; Genre: Medicine/huru: Joseph Cawa tells his 'huru', 'huru Joseph Cawa' or 'huru bara'. He introduces himself as an adat leader of water buffalo adat. Recorded spontaneously 26 Sept 2015 in the late morning by SD and Pidhu (Ebbe) with the AT Lavelier mic in kampong Sali, where we sought to record 'huru'. Cawa walked by where we were sitting, and sat down on the woga (bambu platform) next to the cemented road. Both Pidhu's and my (SD/Cawa Lunda) voice are heard. We ask him what he 'ngiru' with, chewed areca nut and piper betel and what? as is the rule. But no, he just uses a stone, that he scratches and the victim sucks on. Symptoms: Women are hurt in their breast, men in their balls. The curse that causes the symptom uses a small square house of long grass that is hung in a palm tree near the place he cuts it slightly ('pake'), to activate the curse (he did not mention any speech act). After the cure the victim pays 'peju' as is usual. And Cawa says he does not utter any prayer ('bulu wa'o') here either. With a group of people who happened to be around.; digital wav file recorded at 48 khz/24 bit, eaf file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/47862.
