| Description: | Nene starts by explaining how they make rattan until the night in order to trade it and obn tain rice or food. She explains that they now live in that area of the village (and not in the mountains) because it is close to the school so her parents could put her in school when she started grade two. She continues by describing how she collects orchids, they first look at the trees until they find them. She describes how these plants reproduce themselves and how to keep them alive after collecting them, which is done by tying the roots of the plant to some other grass material (which is unknown to me at this point). They know how to recognize the leaves and they collect the plant with the leaves, then they wait for the flower to grow (which takes about one month). One the plant is ready, they go to Baler market during the weekend and sell it. They sell one small plant for 20 pesos and the bigger ones can cost up to 150 pesos per plant. | |
