| Description: | In this first elicitation of this documentation project, SUK1 wanted to get supplementary data on verbal inflection by interviewing HGS1. As it was the first time for both parties, the main goal apart from the actual language data was to get accustomed to the more 'focused' setting of elicitation. For this, SUK1 had made a list of forms that try to inflect different verb stems through Jejuan sentence type distinctions, that is, declarative, interrogative and imperative verb forms, with a further distinction into various politeness registers. As it is a rather complex tasks for both sides, it turned out to be fairly difficult to obtain data, especially because SUK1 had assumed that it'd be enough just to give verb forms with a bit of context to the language teacher, in order for her to grasp the pattern and judge on the grammaticality of forms presented. Obviously, this is how HGS1 was struggling with the confusing array of divergent forms with more or less the same lexical meaning. Not only is this recording interesting for those who want to learn more about Jejuan grammar, but also for those who want to study the interaction between researchers and consultants. The elicitation sessions will become more comfortable and fruitful during later sessions. | |
