Description:(Conatins profane language) BLT01, IO01 & PLT01 introduce themselves, talk about their backgrounds, where they live, used to live, IO01 paying rent on cottage at Le Douit; former hotels and guest houses in the parish of Torteval; basic sanitation in old houses in the past, now modern (outside toilets, now indoor bathrooms etc); PLT01 going for lunch at IO01’s home when he worked at the Torteval grocery shop; antics at the shop; words for trickster; saying that you’ve had enough to eat (satisfied), full up, can’t be used to describe a bus being full up!; linguistic variety in Guernesiais (G), values/respecting others ; German Occupation/evacuation, not speaking G in England, IO01 learnt it after returning to island, thinning grapes with old person who spoke it; word for pride, swear word PLT01; IO01’s son speaks G a little, grandson says the odd word/phrase; extracurricular lessons at school, children not speaking G, children, grandchildren speaking a little G; visitors stopping to listen to people speaking G at Les Sages; PLT01 speaking to customers when he worked at supermarket; expression for something not tasting nice, tired; IO01 is teased over her pronunciation of some English words; Jerriais being different; A Jerseyman who wanted to be buried in St Ouen, not Jersey!; IO01’s father spoke G, and a little English; Jerriais songs for learning; being evacuated and people thinking that evacuees won’t be able to speak English; words for being happy, fed up; meeting another speaker of G the other day; words for women; IO01 talks about another recording session when she talked about her father and nephew coming home from school, messing in his trousers; euchre session at the Imperial Hotel that was recorded, captured on video, swearing; speaking your mind; words for being unhappy, grumpy; unpleasent, curious/ funny/ awkward; words for wicked; reading G; PLT01 being guest of honour and giving speech at L’Assembllaïe d’Guernésiais dinner, briefcase with props, not using notes, being very nervous, humorous story about toilet brush, being very well received by those present, swearing because he was nervous; giving speeches, PLT01 recently giving speech at official opening at Queen’s Diamond Jubilee legacy project - nature reserve; IO01 being contacted about taking part in these recordings, other speakers of G; La Guaine du Vouest concert in Torteval, PLT01 taking part in plays in the past (some profane language), no word for mistletoe, PLT01 describes play; IO01 used to speak G with husband (now deceased); PLT01 describes another play when he played the part of a young boy at the doctor’s with mother, risqué actions; JM01’s house, former owner/occupier - considered unpleasent by some, characters that lived in Torteval; one who had been unwell in the night and claimed that it was from eating ham from shop where PLT01 worked when younger, bag of excrement for testing; Guernsey and how it has changed; PLT01 going for walk with wife and meeting someone who commented on how different the Western part of the Island is; changing architecture, construction; people moving to island,and staying as they like it; immigration, Lativans and other non locals working at Les Tielles care home, and at the hospital, being liked; poor summer weather, days getting shorter; other speakers of G, being widowed; old Torteval residents in care homes who have been visited recently.
