Description:		Interviews in Zábalo conducted on August 3, 2017 from 8:40ma until noon in a 'sitio' in Zábalo on the right side of the river, between the main Zábalo village and Pacuya. In this session, three people were recorded: Carlos Notevo, Maura Criollo, and Rainel Criollo. Carlos Notevo was recorded in his house's working room (where other men and women were getting ready to work on the cleaning of the area to plant cocoa trees. Everyone was drinking 'chicha' (fermented drink made from yuca juice), and sharpening their machetes (and other working tools). The protocols for consent/permission to use all the materials collected during this session was accepted by the group within the house. In 20170803_introduction_spanish, Carlos Notevo gives an introduction of what they are doing and what they will be doing today. He doesn't speak Cofán, so his introduction is in Spanish. This was recorded inside his home. There were other people (family/friends) inside drinking and sharpening their tools. In 20170803_consent_protocol_jm, Jorge talks about the consent protocol to the people present in the house. This was recorded inside Carlos Notevo and Maura Criollo's home. There were other people (family/friends) inside drinking and sharpening their tools. In 20170803_introduction_mc, Maura Criollo gives a brief introduction about the activities we are about to record (she was asked to give an introduction in Cofán -- to replace her husband's introduction in Spanish). This was recorded inside Carlos Notevo and Maura Criollo's home. There were other people (family/friends) inside drinking and sharpening their tools. In 20170803_walking_tothe_field_sa_1, Shen explains where we are going (clearing field), and what the people will be doing there. This was recorded while we are walking to the place where people would be working. In 20170803_walking_tothe_field_sa_2, Shen continues to explain where we are going and describing the types of trees we see on the way to the clearing site. This was recorded while we are walking to the place where people would be working. In 20170803_clearing_site_rc_1, Rainel talks about the importance of working in groups with family members and community members. He talks about the area that is going to be cleared today. Jorge and Shen ask Rainel a few questions about the cacao plants to be planted in the site. This was recorded in the clearing/work site. There are noises of people working nearby, cutting bushes, and using a lawn mower. There were a lot of mosquitoes around so Wilson Silva moved a lot while holding the camera. In 20170803_clearing_site_rc_2, Rainel continues to talk about the clearing site. He talks about planting cacao in a protected area, and the size of the area that they are allowed to clear. He talks about how they handle/deal with the mosquitoes while working. He also talks briefly about the medicinal plants they find when clearing the site. This was recorded in the clearing/work site. There are noises of people working nearby, cutting bushes, and using a lawn mower. There were a lot of mosquitoes around so Wilson Silva moved a lot while holding the camera. 20170803_finding_a_guanta is a short video of the moment someone spotted a guanta. There was some yelling/shouting. This is a very short video. Not much conversation. People were running. In 20170803_looking_forthe_guanta_rn, Rainel talks about how they try to catch a guanta. This video was made while some men were digging in the hole the guanta went into. There are some conversations and laughter nearby. In 20170803_preparing_tshatshapecha_mc, Maura Criollo talks about the process of preparing tshatshapecha, a drink made of plantains. There are some noise of cutting plantains. Jorge asks some questions.
		Jorge Mendua and Shen Aguinda were translating Wilson Silva's questions to Cofán. Jorge Mendua was conducting the interviews, and Shen Aguinda was taking pictures. Wilson Silva was making the video recordings.
		Interviewee. Born in Puerto Carmen de Putumayo (Perú/Ecuador). Lived in Playas Cuyabano, where he met his wife a couple of years ago. Married to Maura Criollo (Cofán). Doesn’t speak Cofán, he and Maura use Spanish to talk to each other (she doesn’t speak Quichua). They have one son (who only speaks Cofán).
		Interviewee. Born in Dureno, Ecuador. Married to Carlos Noveto. A widow of a Cofán speaker, with whom she had five sons (all adults, married, living elsewhere).
		Interviewee. Maura’s brother; also born in Dureno. Married to a Cofán woman; they have a one-year old daughter.
